Descanso Gardens

It's been years since we were last at Descanso Gardens. I don't know why we don't go more often - it's a lovely place to wander in (mostly) peace and quiet, admiring the flowers, streams and water fountains. Unfortunately for us, today was loud, obnoxious mommy and baby day at the Gardens. One special group seemed to follow us everywhere we went, from the cafe to the lilac forest. (No flowers in the forest. Bummer.) I have nothing against moms or babies. But loud, pushy, baby-voice talking women make me nuts. I kept wanting to say, "Let's all use our quiet voices now." Sorry. Rant over. On to the flowers.

Most of the Garden's flowers bloom in April and May but there were still some gorgeous
plants. One of my favorites was the Lamb's Ear, which we recently planted in the front yard. I thought they were just pretty leaves. Turns out they bloom - with purple flowers! And grow to be enormous. This should be interesting. The best part of the day was hearing a loud chittering sound and seeing this:
The sound is what first drew our attention. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the Bat House. With real live bats living in it. How cool is that?

Just a few of the flowers we saw:
Simply gorgeous.

I *heart* Descanso Gardens. My parents used to trek us over there all the time as children. I loved it then and I still do.

Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. So nice to meet new blog friends!
