Raindrops On Roses

Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens . . .

No kittens but we do have raindrops on children.

These guys were thrilled it was raining

and even more excited that I let them Go. Outside. Without. Shoes! In the Rain!

Such sillies.

Siblings

At 13, Leia fits, so she still sits on my lap. Have to admit I love it.

Donovan wouldn’t let his dad drive away until he (Donovan) could show me what he made at daycare. Isn’t it (and he) cute??

Growing

Me: Donovan, are you as tall as Jackie?

Him: No, Jackie is bigger.

Not for long, my little man. Not for long.

I asked Big D to “stand up tall” and this is what I got. 😂 Apparently big bellies make you taller.

Glitter Bomb

My plan for the weekend was to catch up on my Glitter Bomb Ball homework.

Last month we did the big circles in the center column - sewing drunkard’s path curves with no pins! Whoo! -

and I was afraid this month’s tiny circles were going to be much (much!) harder.

I tried the ‘no pin’ method twice before giving up. Hey, what’s a dozen+ pins among friends?? Gotta go with what works.

Trimming down. Look at that pretty curve!

But thanks to Clover extra-fine pins - which can be sewn over without a problem -

and a new ergonomic (and fantastic) 28mm rotary cutter, also by Clover, things are looking better than I’d hoped.

I’m a long way from done, but the 5 little circles are finished; the 8 half-circles for the two outer most columns are started;

and then its just putting the pieces together. Piece of cake Yeah, this is going to take awhile.

Three, Whee!

Finished the third bunny tonight - Leia’s -

despite with constant help

and running commentary

from spend-the-night boy.

Isn’t he cute?

Only one bunny to go (or three; I can’t decide how big I want it . . .) Still hoping to have the mini quilt finished and ready to hang by April 1, but I’m starting to run out of time. Gotta. Sew. Faster.

These Guys

I love days when Donovan and Jaclyn are both here.

Despite the two year age difference (he’ll be 4 next month; she’ll be 6 in June) they love playing together,

whether it’s chalk drawing on the driveway - they drew a room for Snow Leopard and Tigee to play in, complete with bed, door and water/food bowls -

or spending almost 3 hours sitting in my craft room, chattering and having fun with playdoh.

Jac said Pink Ranger was toasting a marshmallow over a fire and had to blow on it to cool it off before she could eat it.

 Hurry up Grandma!

Hope they always stay best buddies.

Two

And then there were two.

Leanne picked the colors for this bunny. After seeing the darker eyes, I may have to go back and redo Jac’s - Pop says it looks creepy (he might be right). Maybe wait and see what Jac says on Monday. . .
(Jac says she loooooooooves it, so the blue eyes stay.)

Two down, two to go. I wonder if they’ll multiply on their own now and I won’t have to sew the rest. . .

Cuteness

Sometimes ya just gotta drop the ‘should be doing’ and go with the cute.

This is the first of four flower pot bunnies

that will eventually (by Easter??) become a small wallhanging.

Each of the girls picked the colors for their bunny’s ears and flower pot; this one is Jac’s.

Tomorrow I’ll get back to “should be doing”. Maybe. These sure are fun . . .

Surgery

Poor snow leopard.

Monday, Donovan handed me his second favorite stuffed animal*, batted his big brown eyes and said, “you fix it, Grandma.”

It didn’t help that he kept pulling the stuffing in and out to show me, making the paw hole ever bigger.

A bit of thread, a little ladder stitch, and “Grandma fixed it!”

May all your life’s worries be so easily resolved, my best boy.

* I repaired Tigee, Donovan’s favorite stuffy, last year and he’s holding up well.

No Pi Here

Donovan didn’t much care that today was Pi Day, he wanted CAKE, thank you very much.

 Mixing the dry ingredients

So he and I made one of our family favorites,

 Eggs in

that’s been the traditional birthday cake for Donovan’s dad

since he was about Donovan’s age.

Donovan enjoys most parts of baking

but he’s at an age where he knows the best is coming, if he has just a little patience.

That would be sprinkling the chocolate chips

and sneaking a few when he thinks I’m not watching.

He’s also turned into a beater-licking fan,

something he adamantly refused to do until this past year, when Leia and Jackie convinced him he was missing out.

Now he knows batter is good but cake is still better. Yummmmmmm.

Working Down The List

Received this kit as a gift for Christmas 2020,

made it in one day during February 2021,

added it to the must-finish list in January 2022,

and finally - hooray! - finished stitching down the appliqués today.

I’ll make the backing tomorrow and take it to the long-armer’s on Tuesday. Feels so good to have this one almost all done.
