Washington, Day 1!

Addy has a new favorite thing -

riding the subway (Metro). And after all the trips we did today, she's a pro. We took the Metro from Arlington to the Smithsonian,

where we boarded a double-decker sightseeing bus for what was supposed to be a 90-minute tour of DC.

Two hot, hungry hours later, the bus had lost a lot of its allure

and we were ready to be d.o.n.e.

We jumped ship (so to speak) at the Air and Space Museum,

had a quick lunch and were ready to go again.

An hour here, then a short hike

down The Mall,

to the National Archives to view the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights,

then on to the Natural History Museum, which Addy loved. (Me too!)

We'd meant to limit our time here, so we could also see Ford's Theater and the International Spy Museum,

but there was just too much to see

and we ended up staying

until they kicked us out

and locked the doors.

Back on the Metro, dinner out for Mother's day, then home again to our apartment (2nd building from the right, 9th floor, with balcony overlooking the pool) for early bedtimes -

too much sun and fun today and we're all pretty tired. Tomorrow we head south to Mount Vernon!

Statue of Albert Einstein.
